It's imperative that you take Notions at the Curragh seriously.
Jane Mangan’s, Curragh, Sunday
There is a very competitive field entered in the Group Three Anglesey Stakes (2.10pm) for two-year-olds over six furlongs. Some people come here hoping to make up for their disappointing experiences at Royal Ascot. Babouche is one filly who arrives here with her reputation untarnished. She was a clear winner on this trip at Cork, showing great resolve in the last stretch. Her lineage is impeccable, and I felt her performance in Cork, where she hinted at potential for more, was incredibly polished. They must like her because she has numerous Group One entries, which isn't something trainer Ger Lyons usually does. For me, she is the one.
I like Mutasarref in the Group Two Minstrel Stakes (3.15pm), a race and distance winner who regained form at Leopardstown and Naas. He is adaptable, will manage any easiness in the terrain, and in my opinion, this is definitely his trip, as opposed to many of his competitors who are better suited elsewhere. Here are his perfect circumstances, and I think he has a good shot.
Next up is the 3.45 p.m. Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap. I think Ger Lyons' challenger Serious Notions is a good choice, and this is a fascinating race for fillies. The handicapper has left her alone on a mark of 88, which I believe is rather generous based on some of her two-year-old record. She was the winner of a maiden at Roscommon the previous time. She finished third in the Irish Champions Weekend race last fall, trailing Kitty Rose by three lengths and Ryan Moore's horse in the Irish Oaks, Content, by half a length. Since then, her performance has fluctuated a little, but she is currently back on track.
The main focus of the Group Three Meadow Court Stakes (4.20pm) will probably be Jackie Oh's fitness upon her return. Although the circumstances of the race would treat her well and she has the best form in this race, is she fit? That being said, Jack Channon's Caernarfon is my choice. She defeated the winner of Kensington Palace in Doha to win the Pipalong Stakes at Pontefract, demonstrating her race fitness. This was her first victory in a while after competing in various competitive races. She seems to have benefited greatly from the drop-in excursion, and I hope she will do well on Sunday.
The 4.55 pm Fleetwood Paints Irish EBF Maiden runs a mile and a half, and if it rains, it might become a test of endurance, which would be ideal for Sidiza's Dermot Weld and Chris Hayes. On her lone start, she trailed behind Hanalia, who is currently running in the Irish Oaks; the second filly that day went on to win. She demonstrated her ability to handle soft ground and her strength that day. If more rain falls, I believe this filly by Sea The Moon will love to step up to a mile and a half and serve it up to the colts.
